2 Minute Christmas Project: A Suitable Basket

There is something to be said for easy Christmas decor projects. Not only are they a quick way to decorate during the rush of the busy holiday season, but they usually don’t cost much and we all have plenty of other things to spend money on during the holidays.

Today’s 2 minute Christmas decor project is a lighted pine cone basket.

What you need:

1. Basket (Re-use one that you already have or go to your local goodwill store. You can always paint it gold, silver or black to match your decor, or go crazy and paint it red for the holiday season.)

2. String of lights (The number of lights depends on the size of the basket. These can be either white or colored lights; whichever you like. The only caution is that you need to make sure that the lights work, and there are not any exposed wires for obvious safety reasons.)

3. Pine cones (I always seem to have some of these hanging out in my Christmas decorations boxes, but they are also at all the stores during this time of the year. You can even get the ones that smell like cinnamon.)

First spread the lights in the bottom of the basket making sure that you leave the plug out so that you can plug it in. Next arrange pine cones on top of the lights. You can place some of the lights up between the pine cones, but make sure none of the cords are showing. Plug in the basket and you are done!

You can put this on a table or put it on the floor to give a nice glow to fill an empty space. You could also use it in a fireplace opening. I don’t light my fireplace for several reasons, the most important being child safety issues, but a basket full of glowing pine cones can simulate some of what I love about a fire.

Happy Holidays!
