A few weeks back I spotted these carvable pumpkins at the local dollar store and the wheels in my brain started churning. There must be something fun I could do with them.
I’m all about options. I change my mind on a regular basis. So when Catherine suggested chalkboard pumpkins I was all over it.
First step: Prime
I whipped out my handy bucket of Kilz 2 Primer I use on everything, quickly turning my pumpkins white.
Step 2: Two Coats of chalkboard paint. I used Rustoleum black chalkboard paint from Home Depot.
Step 4, or whatever step we’re on now: Decorate to my little heart’s content.
Now the possibilities are endless. I can give a pumpkin one face, then change it tomorrow. I can even use one as a calendar, announcing which day it is today. And most importantly, I can let my three-year-old twins scribble all over them again and again.
I just need to get smaller chalk. Sidewalk chalk isn’t very good for detailed pumpkin faces. It’s on my list.
